If the 20th century was considered an era of discrimination against women, the 21st century can be seen as an era in which the value of women is integral to paving the future. Globalization will drive us forward to disseminate the traditional values of Sookmyung Women’s University.
Founded in 1906 with a strong patriotic sentiment, Sookmyung now leads the way as a global university that stands as a role model for women’s education. We address issues women face and cooperate to support women's growth and success on a global level. Rebranded as “Sookmyung Outthinkers,” we will become as a university that contributes to the future of society and helps women grow as leaders.
To grow as a global women’s university, Sookmyung plans to incorporate Korean culture as a developmental driving force to create new values for the future. Korean culture will serve as a multi-disciplinary platform encompassing all fields of study from STEM to the humanities. We will extend the scope of education and research even further, and build Sookmyung’s brand image as an international exchange school.
As we approach our 120th anniversary in 2026, Sookmyung is proud to be called the alma mater of many reputable female leaders in Korean society over the long history of the school. We will not stop here—we will use this new momentum to open a third campus to help us push even further. Based on the history, identity and value of Sookmyung as “Korea’s first women’s private school,” we will open a new chapter of history for women’s universities around the world.
