Sookmyung Women’s University’s College of Engineering marked its 10th anniversary this year with a two-day celebration held on September 11–12. Alumni, faculty members, and students gathered to reflect on the past decade and reaffirm their commitment to a new phase of growth and innovation in engineering.
The official anniversary ceremony took place on the second day at the Snowflake Square Hall, attended by more than 200 participants, including President Moon Si-yeun, Dean Kim Yoon-hee of the College of Engineering, founding Dean Lee Si-woo, Kim Kyung-hee, President of the Alumni Association, and Sibel Tombaz, CEO of Ericsson Korea.
Before the main ceremony began, former Dean Lee delivered a commemorative lecture titled “Science and Technology Revive the Nation.” He emphasized, “To usher in an era of $100,000 per capita income, science and technology must play the most vital role. Korea must develop semiconductor, bio, and shipbuilding industries into nationwide industrial clusters,” adding that “Sookmyung’s College of Engineering must remain steadfast in nurturing the talent that will sustain this vision.”
In her welcoming address, Dean Kim Yoon-hee stated, “The next ten years will be guided by our grand vision to cultivate globally competitive female engineers, to advance cutting-edge AI convergence research, and to expand sustainable university–industry cooperation models.”
President Moon added, “The College of Engineering has invigorated the entire university through remarkable achievements, including increases in technology transfer revenues, international academic publications, and major project acquisitions. We look forward to the college becoming a cradle for core female talent who will lead scientific and technological innovation and shape the future society.”
On that day, Kim Chul-yun, Dean of Strategy & Planning, delivered a presentation on the current status and future direction of the College of Engineering, while Alumni Association President Kim Kyung-hee awarded a special alumni scholarship to Ok Yoo-bin, the founding president of the college’s alumni chapter.
Meanwhile, the first day featured an academic festival prepared by engineering students, titled “Infinite_Outthinkers Sookmyung: Ten Years of Innovation—Engineering Beyond Limits.” At Snowflake Square, ‘experience booths’ were set up to showcase the unique characteristics of each department, along with graduate school information booths and RC car assembly stations.
The event also included an academic conference featuring projects such as △designing integrated solutions for Sookmyung’s smart campus development, and △presenting systems or inventions to improve campus convenience, environmental conditions, and safety. Six teams were selected to receive the President’s Award during the anniversary ceremony.
