A delegation from the University of Dunaújváros, one of Hungary’s leading universities, paid an official visit to Sookmyung Women’s University on Monday, September 15, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at promoting academic and cultural cooperation between the two institutions.
The visiting delegation included János Süli, Chairman of the Dunaújváros Foundation; Marcell Benkó, Board Member; and Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár, Vice President of the University. Hong Kyu-dok, former Korean Ambassador to Hungary and Honorary Professor in the Dept. of Political Science and International Relations at Sookmyung, also attended the ceremony. Sookmyung President Moon Si-yeun engaged in in-depth discussions with the delegation on a range of collaborative initiatives, including education, research, and student exchange programs.
Chairman János Süli previously served as CEO of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant for about a year starting in 2009. He later served as Minister for Nuclear Affairs in the Orbán government from 2017 to 2022 and has been a Member of Parliament for Paks since 2018.
In addition to signing the MOU, the two universities exchanged views on strengthening practical cooperation, focusing particularly on expanding student exchange programs and joint academic initiatives. The University of Dunaújváros is widely recognized in Hungary for its strong emphasis on practical education and industry-academia collaboration, especially in the fields of engineering, IT, and business administration. This visit reaffirmed both institutions’ commitment to advancing higher education and strengthening their global academic networks.
Located in a region that hosts several major Korean companies—including Hankook Tire and SK Innovation—the University of Dunaújváros is strategically positioned for collaboration with Korean partners. The new partnership with Sookmyung Women’s University is expected to open a future-oriented chapter in international academic exchange.
Building on this visit, the two universities plan to expand concrete forms of cooperation step by step, beginning with student exchanges and extending to faculty exchange programs and joint research projects in the near future.
