Sookmyung Women's University signed a memorandum of understanding with GC Biopharma on July 8 to jointly develop women talent and build an industry-academia cooperation framework in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.

The signing ceremony, held at the university's Administration Building, brought together SMWU President Moon Si-yeon, Vice President Wi Gyeong-woo, Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Shin Ji-yeong, Dean of Career Development Son Seo-hui and Professor Im Gwang-il of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, alongside GC Biopharma representatives including Namgung Hyun, vice president and head of the Domestic Sales Division, CE Unit head Byun Seong-woo, and Talent Cooperation Team leaders Heo Seon-hui and Bang Jeong-ho.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will run educational programs to nurture women talent in the pharmaceutical and bio industries and provide company visits and hands-on training opportunities, establishing a field-based partnership. The collaboration will also link with SMWU's participation in the Ministry of Employment and Labor's University Job-Plus Center project to support job placement and develop hiring-linked programs.

The agreement marks GC Biopharma's first industry-academia partnership with a women's university in South Korea.

Since its founding in 1953, SMWU's College of Pharmacy has built more than 70 years of educational expertise and infrastructure. The partnership is expected to give students opportunities to strengthen practical skills in the pharmaceutical and bio fields and design careers connected to industry.

"We hope this partnership, which combines SMWU's excellent educational infrastructure with GC Biopharma's industry expertise, will help nurture creative women leaders who will shape the future of the pharmaceutical and bio industry," President Moon said.

"We will actively support SMWU students in becoming core talent in the pharmaceutical and bio industry by strengthening field-based, industry-linked programs," said Namgung, GC Biopharma's division head.
